A New Me

Okay, I've turned over a new leaf - I swear. There is going to be a new Jana or an old dead one. So here's the things I've decided to do:

1. I changed my work schedule from 7:30-4:00 to 8:30-5:30. Of course, when I'm on the road, this is different, but this is for in-town office hours. I am an early riser and hoped that the getting home a couple of hours before my husband would allow me writing time in the afternoon. Unfortunately, I have decided that I am not a good afternoon writer. I tend to be too tired and too distracted by the time I get home and then accomplish nothing. My writing time has always been in the morning but at the old job I didn't have to be at work until 10:00. So I'm back to morning writing time. AND I'm back to writing at a diner. I wrote RUMBLE at a diner and that's the environment I enjoy - lots and lots of available coffee.

So, I got up this morning, got ready for work, headed out to the diner and got in an hour's writing time before shoveling in breakfast. And the best part - I got four pages written!!!! Now, it might not sound like much, but since I'd only managed one Monday-Thursday (and it wasn't even that good), four is huge! Plus, bear in mind that I haven't been writing regularly in over a year and only semi-regularly this summer (while writing proposal). So I'm a bit rusty, but I think I'll be fine.

2. I am changing my diet. Damn it, I am tired of being tired - and fat - shopping is far less fun when you can't wear anything or they don't make anything cute in your size. So since everything in life needs a goal, here is my goal. I am pretty sure I will be attending the RT Convention next April. By then I want to be 50 pounds lighter. And don't get started on losing weight fast - I have plenty to loose and that's no where near the max of 3.5 pounds/week. Of course, by RWA National, I want to be invisible. :)

So there it is - I know, it's only two items, but they're big items (especially #2). I mean, I could go on to say "I'm going to exercise" or "I'm going to remove my makeup before bedtime" but I don't want to sound crazy.

Good luck with the new schedule and the weight loss!!! I could stand to do both those things, too. :)

Thanks, Tori - we'll see how it's going next week. Or tomorrow. Or this afternoon. :)

Ooh! Its New Years on Jana's blog. 'K, I resolve to at least think about the things I resolved to do last Jan. but haven't done yet :P

We don't say 'fat', we say 'fluffy'.
Having lost...and then found 20 pounds about 20 times now, I'm with ya on the lettuce, its a garnish, NOT a meal. Can't walk past a can of tuna without feeling yakky either.
Beef barley soup is a good choice when I'm cutting back. Good protein in the beef, and barley is one of the most complex carbs, stick to the ribs and all. Plus keeps the system--ahem, clean?

But then, you just got nutritional advice from the reigning queen of 'dial and dine'. Someone who firmly believes carrot cake--particularly when slathered with cream cheese icing-- is a healthy alternative to oatmeal for breakfast!

Best of luck! They are biggies.

If I could do two things, I'm sure I would lose weight and be healthier:

1) Walk every day.

2) Cut refined sugar out of my diet.

Now, I just gotta do those two things.

lainey - I like the "fluffy." :)

kimber - no refined sugar - then why live??????

That's what I can't figure out, Jana, which is why I haven't done it. But, I know I worry about getting diabetest too. I think I can let go of it providing I can hold on to chocolate in some form.

kimber - yeah, I get the Big D. My dad's side of the family are diabetic. In fact, my grandmother lost both her legs up to the knee from diabetes. Lucky for me (knocking on wood right now), I have an above average metabolism for carbs and sugar. My doctor doesn't understand why but says the tests don't lie. Let's hope that doesn't go away.

Chocolate is a requirement for all writers. Otherwise, how could we make it through all the rejections. :)

Oh, man. I've been thinking about the weight thing too. With hubby laid up after knee surgery, I've been doing a lot of baking. What's bad about that is hubby has eaten maybe two of the three dozen cookies I've made. Guess who ate the rest? Add to that Halloween candy and you've got yourself a recipe for a woman in need of a diet.

Or as Lainey said, I'm feeling very fluffy. So, don't worry, Jana, you're not alone in the de-fluffing resolution.

Wow, Jaye, you've been baking???? Your house is really close to mine and calories don't count on Sundays - it's for celebrating God and all his creations, including sugar. :)

Jana, I swear it's only because having an injured hubby brought out my nesting instincts. Baking is not a regular occurance. I agree about Sundays, but what happens when you consume a pan of rice crispy treats all by yourself in one day? If no one sees you do it does it count?

Okay, you go forward and report on how the changes work for you. Maybe I can use you as my inspiration for healthy living and awesome writing? Pretty please :)

shah - we all need to hit the exercise train, I'm afraid. I'll try to take a look at your story next week.

Jaye - if no one sees you do it, it doesn't count unless you TELL people. But I'll never tell so it's just between us and well, everyone else on the world wide web.

Wendy - if you're waiting on me for either of those items, we're both in big trouble. And you have the awesome writing part handled. I have no idea on the healthy living as I did get to see you this year at National. :(

You go sistah!!!! I got plenty of faith in you. Oh, and if you need something for energy, call me, I've got something great-not to worry, it's legal-all you do is add it to some propel water, drink it down and wallah! you are rarin' to go. Great stuff!!

Hi sis - what the heck are you drinking???? Definitely sounds like something I need. Energy is a good thing when on deadline. :)

Jana - I follow all the blogs that Kristin links to and I love yours! I wanted to let you know that I just took off the rest of my baby weight (yay!) doing a whole foods diet - I got the plan from Ultrametabolism and it was GREAT because I wasn't hungry, ate as much as I wanted, and lost 22 pounds in about 3 months.

I'm so excited about it - that I mouth off about it whenever dieting comes up. :)
