First Day of the Rest of my Life

So this is my official first day as a non-accountant. I don't start the new job until next week, but I'm officially done with the old one.

I had a great last day - complete with yummy lunch, gifts and chocolate covered strawberries (thanks Brad!). I loaded up five years worth of junk and headed out around 3:45.

Then a strange thing happened when I reached the end of the parking garage and went to pull out onto the street. This feeling washed over me like I was starting all over. And in a way, I am. I've spent seventeen years working full-time as an accountant and four years of college to get there. That's 21 years of my life - over half - doing this one thing.

And now I won't do it anymore.

So this year, I moved to a new house, started a new career and will have my first book published. How's that for a new beginning?

I can only tell you that I feel free!

I love switching jobs. Something about having all the old projects officially off of my mental schedule and nothing new to take their place yet.

Congratulations on the new job and the book.

Oh, shah, so young, so full of promise. But do not despair. My young and beautiful friend, Diana Peterfreund, kept at is and is very successful now.

Hi Mike and thanks for the congrats! The best part about this switch is that it's to a whole new career and one I've been wanting to get into for years. And you're so right about the old projects offically gone. I did my very last payroll on Tuesday and I hope to never do another as long as I live. :)

I love you, Wendy! Can you pop in and make comments like that once a week? :)

Woo-hoo! Congrats Jana! Yes, I've heard the term that you've ended a old cycle in your life and beginning a new one. =D It's sort of been the same for me too. New home, new job.

Good luck to you on this new job!

Hi Kelly! And thanks! I hope this journey is a little more interesting and more suited towards my new writing goals than the last one.
